"Acquiring knowledge does not make wonders and mysteries disappear from our world. There will always be new secrets to discover." – Anaïs Nin Between 13-18 June 2026, 23 students of our school participated in an Erasmus+ meeting at Balatonakali, together with students of the Nagy Sándor József High School from Budakeszi. The aim of the programme: to visit locations in the Northern Balaton region with geographical, historical and cultural-historical significance. Thus, places defining Hungarian history and literature were visited in Tihany (Mihály Csokonai Vitéz: To the Echo of Tihany, the founding charter of Tihany Abbey – a document containing the first written Hungarian words and phrases). On the second day, the Mór Jókai Memorial House in Balatonfüred (where Jókai wrote the novel The Man of Gold) was visited, as well as the venue of the Anna Balls in Balatonfüred, frequented also by Széchenyi and Lajos Kossuth. The third day featured a visit to the baroque Festetics Castle in Keszthely and its English park. The following day aimed at visiting Szigliget Castle, built by the Benedictine order on a volcanic cone (1260–1262), which also played the role of a frontier fortress against the Turkish siege. On the last day of the programme, at the five-day accommodation site, Balatonakali, the programme concluded with listening to a soul-soothing song arranged from Bálint Bársony's choral piece "May God Give You a Good Night!", set to the sunset regularly playing in national colours at the iconic centre of the settlement. Alongside the study trip, the programme emphasised joint activities of the two countries, strengthened the love of sport and nature, and highlighted the economic, social and touristic importance of Lake Balaton. The team that enjoyed the experience-filled days also learned about the role of fun, team building and responsibility-taking. Programme coordinator: Deme Ildikó, English teacher
