OPENING CEREMONY

"Between 9-13 February, during School Otherwise Week, the Bod Péter Days are being held at the Bod Péter Pedagogical High School in Sfântu Gheorghe. The school management, together with teachers and the student union – taking students' wishes into account – organised the week around four major themes: Bod Péter Days, Jókai 200, carnival traditions and love. The event was opened by Principal Gál Zsuzsanna, followed by Baróthi Borbála, president of the student union, addressing the audience.
On the first day, Monday, the 314th anniversary of the school's patron's birth was commemorated with a programme honouring Bod Péter. The figure of Bod Péter was evoked based on his Autobiography, his works Saint Hilarius and Magyar Athenas, and the biography written by Szinnyei József, seeking an answer to how he can be a role model for all of us today. Unconventionally, the programme featured those who, following in Bod Péter's footsteps, have embarked on the path of scientific research in recent years, participating in student science conferences. The programme was compiled by Deák Magdolna, Hungarian language teacher. This was followed by a solo performance by graduating student Fejér Ákos Bence. His coordinating teacher: Gligor Zoltán, music teacher. The ceremony continued with wreath-laying and the singing of the Hungarian national anthem. At the patron's bust, Principal Gál Zsuzsanna laid a wreath of remembrance.
In parallel, in honour of the Jókai Memorial Year, the figure of the great writer was evoked, focusing on his novel Cigánybáró (The Gypsy Baron). A lecture was given by Ferencz Áron. At the Vackor Daycare Centre, a slide presentation of the carnival tradition was held. There, rattling, noise-making instruments were made from natural materials (walnuts, branches, bottle caps), and carnival chants and name-teasers were learned. Yesterday, in the school's craft workshop, traditional carnival masks were made from felt, as well as with fingertip painting, brush, cutting and gluing. The main theme of the lectures was Jókai. In addition, until Friday, students can look forward to many interesting unconventional lessons, discussions, book launches, skill and team games, carnival costume and set design, music listening, baccalaureate task solving, carnival performances, etc." (Iochom István, journalist) (Read on 3szek.ro)
